Kissaki-Kai Karate-Do International

Kissaki-Kai Karate was founded in March 1993 by the outstanding master Vince Morris (currently 9th Dan), a former British, European and World champion in kumite and kata (SKIF), a senior instructor at the Antwerp Police Academy, who together with a group of black belts decided to abandon the sports aspect and focus exclusively on effective self-defense techniques.

The Japanese sword was the "soul" of the samurai, and the blade itself was a revered weapon combining the beauty with its deadly efficiency. "Kissaki" is the very edge of the blade, tempered, extremely durable and unsurpassed in sharpening. The philosophy of Kissaki-Kai is that every follower of the style should be like this point, repeatedly tempered, becoming hard and durable, able to stop any offence and attack like a strike of the sword.

Nowadays it so happens that most karate schools focus solely on competitions and earn their reputation through their champions. At the same time most of those competitions are held according to the rules which prohibit participants from using techniques effective in real street combat. This makes them highly vulnerable in the event of an attack by criminals, especially those likely motivated and undeterred from committing homicide.

"There are indeed competitions in sports karate, which is yet another reason for regret. Striving for victories in competitions does not help, but hinders the mastery of the true karate ways. Moreover, it can prevent ones ability to master effective techniques" (M. Nakayama).

That is why it is important to study karate as it was originally created - not focusing on the visual forms but on the content. Kissaki-Kai returned karate to its origins, making it the art of self-defense that it's always been supposed to be.

Kissaki-Kai teaches 5 fundamental principles of combat:

  • Atemi-waza: vital point striking
  • Nage-waza: grabs, throwing techniques
  • Ne-waza: groundwork, grappling
  • Kansetsu-waza: joint locking techniques
  • Shime-waza: choking techniques.

Mastery of these techniques allows you to greatly multiply your technical arsenal, become unaffected by the physical form of your opponents and form a fundamental understanding of the main principle of self-defense: this is not a fight, but a victory within the first seconds!
